A holiday with a difference! The wonderful Straw Bale Cottage nestles behind a majestic oak tree in the old orchard at Village Farm. The old apples and pears have long since gone but hopefully the newly planted trees will soon be providing visitors with a tasty treat!
Completed in late summer 2009, the Straw Bale Cottage has an environmentally friendly yet contemporary feel. Using a combination of natural paints, vintage and organic fabrics, restored and handmade solid wood furniture the Cottage is a very special holiday hideaway indeed.
Our super insulated, curvy straw bale walls proudly boast artwork by eco-interior design Corinne Young (www.ecoteriors.co.uk).
The Straw Bale Cottage is larger than its' sister the Straw Bale Cabin. There are two upstairs bedrooms that can sleep five people. The north bedroom has a lovely oak framed king sized bed and the south bedroom has a queen and a single bed. There is also a sofa bed in the ground floor study for an extra guest.
It took us nearly 18 months to build the Straw Bale Cottage, to find out more visit www.homegrownhome.co.uk and read our blog.

The Straw Bale Cottage is a perfect escape to the countryside; peaceful, relaxing and environmentally friendly. It is the UK’s first 2 bedroom holiday cottage made with straw bale walls.

The spacious accommodation comprises an entrance lobby with cloakroom (including a shower), lounge, kitchen and study. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms with a spacious bathroom between the two.
The wide straw bale walls will keep the Straw Bale Cottage warm and cosy through the colder months. The low winter sun will stream through the bare branches of the oak tree and on through the French doors to naturally warm the cottage. The log burning stove in the centre of lounge will provide additional heat and hot water.
In summer those same straw bale walls keep the heat out and the building stays cool. The oak tree and the verandah over the French doors provide natural shade.
As for the Straw Bale Cabin, organic towels and bedding, complimentary larder basics, a convenient honesty shop, bicycles, recycling, books and games are all part of the service to make our eco self catering accommodation a great holiday experience for you.
A cot, high chair, stair gates and fire guard are provided for families with very young children.
Sorry but no pets are allowed at the Cottage.
