A unique holiday experience! The cosy, Straw Bale Cabin stands in the corner of a wildflower meadow, over looking a delightful pond.
Although only completed in 2007, the curvy, clay plastered walls, oak beams and deep, oak windowsills give the cabin the feel of an old country cottage.
The accommodation comprises a bright kitchen and lounge area opening out onto a south facing porch, a spacious double bedroom and adjoining shower.
A sofa bed can be provided for a third guest or there is lots space to pitch a tent.
The Straw Bale Cabin is the perfect escape to the countryside; peaceful, relaxing and environmentally friendly. It is the first “mobile” straw bale building in the world (as far as we know!) and the UK’s first holiday home made from straw bales.

Construction of the Cabin commenced in late June 2006. The walls were built with locally grown wheat straw in just five days. Over the next four months we put on a roof, fixed in the windows and protected the walls with lime render (outside) and clay plaster (inside).
During the winter months we worked hard to complete the interior and the Straw Bale Cabin was ready to welcome its first visitors in Spring 2007. You can find out more about the construction at www.homegrownhome.co.uk
The Straw Bale Cabin is wonderfully warm and cosy in the winter months. The sun pours in during the day to heat the Cabin for free. Small electric radiators quickly warm the Cabin on cold nights and the wide insulated walls retain the heat in the building for a long time.
In the summer the south facing porch keeps the high sun out and it stays refreshingly cool inside the Straw Bale Cabin. The double height ceiling inside the Cabin also helps to naturally cool the building.
